Cape Town

Cape Town has it all … exquisite beaches, breath-taking scenery and wildlife, world-renowned gastronomy and a buzzing night-life. Here are our top picks for what to do!

Table Mountain: A must for everyone. Most visitors will take the Arial Cableway where the views from the top are spectacular. But it is always popular and you might have a wait. Take a tip … you need clear skies for this so take the first opportunity you get because Table Mountain is often shrouded by its famous “Tablecloth”.

Robben Island: No visit is complete without going to Robben Island where you can take a peek inside Nelson Mandela’s tiny cell and visit the Quarry where they plotted the future of their country whilst toiling under the baking sun.

Your tour guide will almost certainly be a former inmate and their first-hand recollections are priceless. You’ll be inspired to learn more.

The Winelands: It takes just about an hour to drive from Cape Town lies the Cape Winelands. Franschoek and Stellenbosch are two most popular destinations but everywhere you go all the vineyards try to tempt you in for a wine tasting visit. Many of them have their own restaurants, they all seem to have such fantastic menus, not to mention a selection of the best of their own products, which they obviously would like to to take with you. Do it!

And on your way back to Cape Town, you can call in at Groot Constantia, the oldest wine producing estate in South Africa. It’s in the Constantia Valley (on the “back” of the Mountain) and is well worth a visit.

The Cape Peninsula: Enjoy the sites of Table Mountain National Park, a natural world heritage site and “Natural New Seven Wonder of the World.” You can fit it all into amazing day by booking a Cape Peninsula tour with Escape to the Cape Tours. They will take you to the Cape of Good Hope, Cape Point and Boulder’s Beach, home to the African Penguin colony.

The Beach: Camp’s Bay, nestled just below the Twelve Apostles mountain range, is the perfect chic and trendy beach town to visit. The sea is always a bit on the cold side but there is an excellent selection of restaurants right opposite the beach.
