Greyton

Greyton

Said to be the most beautiful village in the Cape, Greyton nestles in a hollow in the majestic Riviersonderend Mountain range, at the end of the R406 tar road, off the N2 in the Overberg. Quaint, natural and unspoilt, with mostly dirt roads, this is a wonderful place to stay for a few days.

There are some wonderful hikes or walks along the many trails, through the nature reserve, along the rivers and in the village itself. For the adventurous there is the famous Bosmanskloof trail which runs from from Greyton to McGregor, where you can either sleep over and hike back the next day or arrange transport to take you back by road. You can cool off in the mountain pools. Mountain biking is also very popular with over 150 km of trails to experience.

Greyton has ample accommodation and boasts 10 excellent restaurants. There are some excellent food shops, selling the best quality meat, freshly grown produce, freshly baked bread and anything else you need during your stay … not to forget the excellent Saturday morning market. The famous Von Geusau Chocolates are made here, in the Belgian tradition and we defy you to go home without trying them!

Probably the best month to visit is October when, which is when the annual Rose Fair takes place. The morning market expands to more than 200 stalls, music fills the air, and the entire village is bursting into flower and greenery.
