Sedgefield
The N2 runs right through Sedgefield, you won’t miss it because it must be the slowest stretch of dual carriageway along the whole of the Garden Route! And that is why Sedgefield calls itself the “Slow Town”.
It is indeed a sleepy town but there are a few good restaurants along the edge of the N2 and nowadays it is mainly known for its Saturday Morning Farmers Market. Situated adjacent to the Swartvlei lagoon, the entrance is via the Engen petrol station at the W end of the town.
First held in 1999, this small, rustic (and now internationally famous) farmers’ market continues to attract the enthusiastic attention of locals, not so locals and numerous discerning travellers who consistently return for more of its festive fare. You will find a blend of people from diverse backgrounds, all keen to promote an awareness of local food sources, nutrition, environmental and agricultural issues, all blending into an unusual festive spirit of community.
Open every Saturday morning (from 7:30-12 noon summer; 8:00-12 noon winter) COME RAIN OR SHINE, this authentic market is brimming with the choicest locally-produced foods, both the take-home and breakfast variety. Including free-range meats, chicken, lamb, dairy and cheese, the market also specialises in fresh-from-the-field veg, freshly baked and bottled goods, as well as a wide variety of fresh-off-the-coals breakfasts. The market also proudly offers the many plants and flowers of the unique Southern Cape Floral Kingdom, courtesy of local plant specialists.

We go there for the fantastic breakfasts, good wholesome food served in a sheltered grove of trees and surrounded by all kinds of local produce stalls. Country music plays in the background whilst the colourful township band, the Eden Minstrels, welcomes visitors at the entrance. Sounds guaranteed to lift your spirits on a Saturday morning.
