Heidelburg

Heidelburg

Heading back to the N2 from Witsand, almost the first town we come to is Heidelburg.

Set on the banks of the Duiwenhoks River, with the Langeberg peaks forming a dramatic backdrop, we are now approximately 270 km to the East of Cape Town. The town dates back to 1855, after the German city of the same name … and this Heidelburg is is a nature lover’s paradise.

We are probably going to upset everyone living in the town, but for us, Heidelburg means “The Blue Crane” roadside cafe.  Perfectly placed, halfway between Cape Town and Knysna, this is where we always stop for a  quick lunchtime snack and to browse in little shop for the the many locally produced jams, dried fruits, etc.
