Beyond the Cape – via the N2

Beyond the Cape – via the N2

There is a lot to do in Cape Town and the local area, but if like so many visitors you decide you have to return, you will need to think of something else to see. It is a huge area and there is plenty of choice!

A favourite option is the drive towards Port Elizabeth, the total distance is approx 750 km so you might not choose to do it in one trip – so you can leave something to come back to the following year!

For starters, you might decide to fly into Cape Town, have a night there to get yourself settled then head off towards  the East.  Again you have 2 options, the southerly route, along the N2, or the more scenic route along the R62, to the North, on the other side of the mountains. They eventually come together in George, which as a great place to base yourself whilst you explore this spectacular part of the country and then you can fly back to Cape Town of Jo’burg for your flight home.

But we’ll start this blog on the Southern Route, along the N2, which takes you through Somerset West and up the Sir Lowry’s pass, then we suggest on to Hermanus, where you can make your first stop.
