People are still taking holidays in spite of the credit crunch, one expert suggested.

Although people may be spending slightly less on their Holidays, they are nevertheless still travelling abroad, according to Cheaperholidays.com.

People may be adjusting their spending by staying in less luxurious accommodation, he argues, or going away for a shorter amount of time.

“The actual number of people — young and old — travelling the world or taking a simpler or shorter holiday has not been impacted much by the credit crunch.”

Commenting on the ways in which people might save money, he gave the example that travellers may now stay in three-star accommodation instead of a five-star hotel, or choose a better value destination.

According to a study recently published by cheaperholidays.com, close to one in six Britons have told a fib about their travel experiences in order to impress someone.

It found almost 49% of “countries and destinations visited” were actually airport stopovers as opposed to holidays booked .
